From currency to the weather, here are some insider tips to make sure your Moroccan adventure is all you want it to be.

Time differences in Morocco:
There is no time difference during CET, however, there is a one-hour difference during daylight savings.
Weather:
Much of Morocco is typical of a four-season climate – super hot in the summer without much rain, Winter turning wet, snowy and humid with milder conditions, and the seasons of Autumn and Spring acting as usual, with warm to mild temperatures.
Tangier and other cities along the Northern coastlines follow more of a Mediterranean climate pattern. This pattern includes warm summers and cool winters but not too much extremity. These cities and towns usually experience milder temperatures throughout the year, often not reaching much higher than 86°F on a hot day.
Telephone and Internet:
Dialing code: +212
Making calls from Morocco can be expensive, particularly from a mobile! Ask your mobile provider about roaming charges before leaving for your trip. To make cheaper calls, you can purchase phone cards from companies such as Maroc Telecom. These are available from all post offices (La Poste) and can be used in public phone booths. Morocco also has many téléboutiques with coin-operated telephones and internet access. You could also visit an internet café or simply use the Wi-Fi in your hotel.
Taking Photos
Even though Morocco offers an endless supply of captivating images, always keep in mind that it’s respectful to ask before taking a snap of a Moroccan person. Many Moroccans do not allow photos to be taken as it is forbidden by some Islamic teachings. However, you may find locals who are happy to be photographed – but expect a small token in return. Most importantly, do not take photos of people who are praying, or anyone in uniform. Official buildings which are indicated by the Moroccan flag must not be photographed. Not sure what you can photograph? Just ask!
Tipping for Service
Tips are not included in café and restaurant bills but are an important part of people’s wages in Morocco. If their service was satisfactory, then a tip of around 10% is recommended. The same goes for taxi drivers, porters, tour guides, and hotel staff.
Religious Customs
State Religion: Islam
Morocco’s official religion is Islam. Almost 99% of the population is Muslim. Local customs and practices must be respected in all religious places. Keep in mind that throughout the fasting month of Ramadan, it is not permitted to eat and drink in public during the day. Consequently, options in restaurants and bars will be limited, and opening times at tourist attractions may change.
Out of respect for the local culture and religion, overly revealing clothes (ex. miniskirts or shorts) should be avoided when you’re sightseeing or strolling around town. It is not necessary to wear a head covering or scarf but if you go into any holy places, it will be required.
In keeping with Islam, it is recommended that you do not consume alcohol in public. However, many hotels and restaurants do serve alcoholic drinks.
Drinking the Water:
Do not drink water from the tap while visiting Morocco. You will be able to purchase water wherever you go or a great tour company will always have water on hand for their guests.
Health Insurance
Global health insurance is important for any trip abroad. It can save you from high medical costs and serious problems. We strongly recommend that you take out an appropriate insurance policy before your trip. It doesn’t have to be expensive and can be completed online! Learn more here.
Languages:
Arabic, French and Berber
The people of Morocco speak Moroccan Arabic (Darija) and several Berber languages. French is the country’s second language and is spoken by most Moroccans. However, in many areas, you will be able to get by with English. But why not be a good guest and learn a few Arabic words? It makes a good impression on the locals and helps you feel more integrated into their culture.
