Meet Our Eclipse Professor: Dr. Said Rachafi

Our Eclipse professor and "astronomer type" is Dr. Said Rachafi of the University of Tangier, recommended to us by our Morocco partner Ahmed el Jabri of Marrakech.  Dr. Rachafi is Head of the Physics Department and Professor at the Faculty of Sciences and Techniques at his school.  He holds a PhD in Atomic Physics from the University of Louvain, Belgium, and is a visiting professor there (UVL), at  the Catholic University of Louvain and at the University of Paris-South. 

Dr. Rachafi is a developer of laser granulometers and interferometers and is widely published in these and related fields.  He founded the Astronomy Club at his University in Tangier, organized conferences on astrophysics and astronomy, and moderated conferences and roundtables in these disciplines.He's also a cool guy and passionate about his life's work.  Despite his technical expertise, he speaks excellent simple English explaining and breaking down the exciting solar event in terms everyone can understand.

Our group will watch the eclipse together under the tutelage of Professor Rachafi who the day prior will deliver a course on what we are about to experience, Q & A's, should be a great learning experience.

You can ride camels in the Agafay Desert on a day trip out of Marrakech.  Advantages:  less driving (private group van from Tangier) and enjoy wonderful Marrakech at the same time.
